Jazz Dancing!

Jen and I went to Denver's City Park tonight, and they were having a Jazz concert. There were a LOT of people there, and it was fun even though the "music" was jazz and therefore borderline unlistenable. The guy in this video made my night. Dancing in public is a privilege, not a right. This guy is OUT OF CONTROL. It's hilarious. I had trouble keeping the camera steady I was laughing so hard.

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 169 - 07-14-12 - Fear of the Mentally Handicapped

It was Woody Guthrie's 100th birthday, so Craig opened up the show with some Woody info to honor him. Then the show went all sorts of places from there.

We had a terrific news story from Dallas about a naked man driving a truck into a mall, then we discussed some contraversies surrounding the London Olympics, and then Craig admitted to a strange fear of the mentally handicapped and the guys agreed that Vegetarians are smug in "Something to Think About".

The Ed called in at this point, and we jumped around in typical Ed fashion discussing Cowboys football, Peyton Manning, and NBA Career salaries. When Elevation called in towards the end of the show, we somehow started discussing the best looking redheads in history.

We wrapped things up with a Vertically Striped Music Recommendation from Woody Guthrie of "The Car Song". This was an outstanding appearance from The Ed and a really fun show. We went the full 2 hours despite Craig's best intentions to keep the show to an hour.

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 168 - 07-07-12 - Mayberry's Finest

It was the Andy Griffith episode, as we honored Mayberry's sherriff by reliving VSR past as well as listening to the comedy act that first made Griffith famous. We also inducted Andy into the VSR Hall of Fame, as he joined John Elway, Joe Sakic, and Paul Newman.

We also touched on some random sports topics like NBA Free Agency, MMA, and the Coney Island Hot Dog eating contest. Craig finally played Robin Williams' take on the Scottish inventing golf, and we announced the nominees for the 4th annual Sockie Awards.

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 167 - 06-30-12 - The Injustice of it All

Face Ventura is slowly learning to trust Craig's taste in movies. The boys did a new edition of the He-Man Movie Watchers Club discussing the slasher comedy "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil". The consensus: Those are some lovable rednecks.

The guys also had a themed newscast centered around unjust laws, we played the inspirational public service announcement "It gets bigger", and the Whale dropped in to say hello at the end of the show before we wrapped up with a music recommendation from TV on the Radio of the song "DLZ".

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 166 - 06-23-12 - Smuggling out a Thumb Drive

The guests were plentiful on this edition. Craig is going to be a guest on Bar Side Rambling this coming week, so El Greg of the Bar Side Rambling crew came on to promote this weeks show. We also heard from regulars Face, Elevation, The Whale, and The Ed.

The guys discussed the dearth of sports in the summer, driving onto a golf course, dumb people calling 911 for ridiculous reasons, "Going Rogue", Pressing 5 to leave a callback number, and we reviewed some insane Craig's List postings including a man trying to find a woman after she stole his thumb drive a most unusual manner.

We wrapped it all up with a music recommendation from The Barenaked Ladies of the song Bank Job...one of those stereotypical "Group of Canadians go to rob a bank only to be thwarted by a bunch of nuns" songs. I know the genre is overdone, but somehow BNL manage to find a new approach to this tired theme.

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 165 - 06-16-12 - Something that Looks Like Lungs.

With half of Colorado on fire, Craig was in the proper mood to get heated up about things today. We started off in style with one of the best news stories in the history of VSR and then transitioned properly into our glorious Magnificent Seven list.

Today's list had Craig going head to head with Face in "Top Seven Things We Find Overrated that the Whole World seems to love" it took up pretty much the entire show, and featured calls from Elevation, The Whale, and The Ed.

Things wrapped up nicely with a recommendation of the song "If I Wanted Someone" by Dawes.

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 164 - 06-09-12 - Picking the Right Horse

After two straight weeks of darkness and sadness, VSR returned to bring light into the world right and restore balance to the world. Sadly, pretty much all we did was watch a horse race and discuss how the world has gone wrong since last we broadcast a show.

Face was absent today, so Elevation agreed to fill in for him. Together we watched the Belmont Stakes, as Craig continued his tremendous streak of picking the right horse. We also discussed how the world goes off it's axis when VSR goes away, and gave several compelling examples of just how badly things get upset when we don't do shows.

The Whale calls in towards the very end of the show and says hello and we chat a bit about dead cats before things wrap up with a music recommendation of "Some Nights" by Fun.
