Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 119 - 07-30-11 - Football Overload

Football!!! The lockout is over, and Craig has his mind on the pending pigskin. With a crazy week of NFL free agency just passed, Face and Craig broke down the goings on in the world of the NFL. We also made our picks for the division champs for all 8 divisions, putting our picks up against picks made by rolling dice and the picks of a three year old boy. Hopefully by season's end, Face and I will both be better prognosticators than a preschool lad and random chance, but the odds are probably against us.

In addition to talking football, we also inducted two more members into the Vertically Striped Hall of fame...members who have frequently been a subject of debate between Craig and Face in the past. Craig also sprinkled in some music recommendations from the new album "Join Us" from They Might Be Giants.

The big decision for the night was to select the movie "Rubber" for the next He-Man Movie Watcher's Club discussion next Saturday, as when you have an opportunity to talk about a movie about a killer tire, you have to do so.

I feel GREAT!! (Also, I need a Nutrigrain bar.)

Why can't there be more commercials like this on TV? I think I'd actually watch them. I feel like going out and buying a Nutrigrain bar right now! (Thanks to my friends Nate, Brandi, and Cameron for introducing me to this gem.)

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 118 - 07-23-11 - Drunk Demolition Derby Drivers and Fast Food Greatness.

Mired in the depths of one of the worst stretches in sports history, Face and Craig managed to burn through nearly an hour of sports talk. Well, that is if you consider discussing Winnipeg Jets logos and women's soccer talking sports. We did also touch on what we hope to get out of sports coverage of labor negotiotations, basically we both simply want an end to lockouts and then absolutely nothing else in the way of lockout news.

A whole new edition of "Something to Think About" had Craig discussing a valid reason that Face needed to change his last name, a change in a law that would allow cars to run down pedestrians, and some snow-cone talk...amongst other things. The Magnificent Seven returned with a Top 7 list of Fast Food Items, and the Vertically Striped Music Recommendation was the epically weird song "Start Wearing Purple" by Gogol Bordello.

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 117 - 07-16-11 - One is the loneliest number.

The Vertically Striped Academy of Arts, Sciences, and Other Neato Stuff held center stage as Episode 117 was used to unveil the winners of the 3rd annual Sockie Awards.

Craig was flying solo all show, so today's show was kind of like leftover day for the show...All the audio clips that had been sitting on the shelf for months or more were thrown into the mix to keep Craig from losing both his voice and his sanity. Included in the mix, we helped Jim from Taxi pass his drivers test, Craig apologized for a giant mis-step on the Magnificent Seven television theme songs, we played the Duck song, and we heard the official anthem of summer.

Craig also took a little time to wonder why Denver is turning into Seattle as well as reminisce about his experiences at camp and also unveiled the troubling source of the official Royal Family Kids Camp theme song. He even invited the listeners to play Words with Friends and offered a prize for the first person who can email what instrument is being played in an audio clip. (Email your answers to Radio@VerticallyStripedSocks.com)

The Vertically Striped Music Recommendation was "You Remind Me" by Steve Poltz.

My New Internet Love: Tumblr

It's called Tumblr. It's not replacing this blog, but it is getting a lot more action than this site of late. Even if I'm not sure why they dropped the "e" that should be between the "l" and the "r".

Check it out the Vertically Striped Socks tumblr over at:

This is almost TOO brilliant. Thanks to Mike Dell for tweeting it out.

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 116 - 07-09-11 - The Goldilocks Problem(s)

Craig had no time to prep a show for July 9th, so instead, he put together a random podcast edition of the show before he left for camp.

There is a Magnificent Seven list of the Top 7 coolest things in Pulp Fiction, a dressing down of the Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, Craig's impressions from the first time eating a KFC Double Down, and even a music recommendation of the song "The Golden Age" from the Asteroids Galaxy Tour.

It's not a full show, but hopefully it'll be enough for this Saturday, because it's all you're getting this week from VSR!

Vertically Striped Radio - Episode 115 - 07-02-11 - Dickler Schlong

The show had it's first official co-host in a very long time today, as The Ed had asked to be the co-host. I agreed for a single episode, and Ed decided to call in and make outrageous statements which I derided as being untrue. So basically it was like every other Ed appearance on "The VCR Report".

Ed helped me with the Magnificent 7 List - Top Seven Terrible Things to Name your Baby. During the list, Ed claimed that Dick was not a shortened version of Richard but rather, Dick is short for Dickler. He also claimed he had a friend named Dickler Schlong.

The Vertically Striped Academy of Arts, Sciences, and other Neato Stuff announced the nominations for the 3rd annual Sockie awards...The Award Show will be broadcast live on VSR on July 16th this year. (Tickets are going fast.)

Ed kept with show co-host tradition and bailed on the show with about 40 minutes to go, so Face and Craig finished up the show with the He-Man Movie Watchers Club disecting "The Parking Lot Movie." a documentary about a parking lot, naturally.

The Vertically Striped Music Recommendation was "I'm Free" by The Soup Dragons, and then the show finished up with a goofy "hip hop" song from the Parking Lot Movie called "Welcome to the CPL". Lets just say that 50 Cent has nothing to worry about. (Is 50 Cent still hot in Hop Hoppery? I don't keep current with the rap kids.)
